Loneliness

"My love life was getting so bland. There are only so many ways I can make love with my hand. Sometimes it makes me want to laugh. Sometimes I want to take my toaster in the bath."- Blink 182

Sometimes you wonder if that box of condoms you keep in your underwear drawer is going to expire before you have sex again . . . even if the expiry date is two years away.

Despite what the writers of a certain episode of "Columbo" may think, dropping a plugged-in toaster into a bath full of water with you (or anybody else) in it won't kill you (or whoever is in the bath), or even give you any sort of shock. In order to be electrecuted or have a shock, the electricity must pass through one's (relatively high-resistence) body on its way to ground. Electricity will seek the path of least resistence, however, and just go straight through the water to the metal part surrounding the plughole, which should take it to the nicely earthed pipes. The only chance that you have of dying is if you lift the still plugged-in appliance out of the bath, whereupon the water that is left in and around it may well cause the electricity from inside to be counducted through the surface water to your hand, and along your arm, past your heart, into your torso, and then out into the water in the bath to continue its journey towards the plughole.

Of course, all this is quite irrelevant to the point that you were trying to make, but one feels compelled to point these things out sometimes. Think of it as gratitude for linking my 'blog. :-)

Hmm. You mean TV has lied to me all these years. I'll have to look into that.
