Valentine's Day is like Christmas for some people. People in a relationship want the day to be perfect, but usually the day turns out to be anticlimatic.
And people who are alone end up feeling lonlier than normal.
It's just another commercial holiday aimed at selling greeting cards. It's a holiday that can make us feel miserable.
It's like Christmas.
Except unlike Christmas, it's okay to pretend that Valentine's Day doesn't exist. Push the day out of your mind. Make it a day like any other.

OMG! I think it's a fabulous day! Everyone is out celebrating love! Love is everywhere whether you try to push it aside today or not.... and is especially prevelent today if you suddenly decide you want to go out to eat and totally forget that almost every restaurant in america will be booked solid!
I'm single, I have no boyfriend, I have no date tonight (except my dog).... but that didn't stop me from passing valentines and candy to my co-workers and friends. Love does not just have to be between a man and a woman and all romantically mushy.
I agree w/ you TDL. The worst part of it is how the flower companies and restaurant take advantage of you if you want to go out. They jack up their prices, offer pre-fix menus, and overall make you feel like you're a loser if you don't do it all.

I suppose the day is what you make of it.
Unfortunately, in my circle of friends and co-workers there is no sharing of valentines and candy.
And it's a little too late to start this year.

I feel the same way about most holidays. They are all a commercial scam in someway or another.
But perhaps, if you can't beat'em, join them. You know spend money to make the most of the holidays... even if you are alone.

I'll be spending quality time at home on Valentine's with my four-legged friend too.
Maybe do my dishes, watch some Olympics... fun, fun.
I am acting like it never existed, a feat I've accomplished for over 5 years minus the year I had The Worst Valentines Ever (Which was also the only Valentine's Day I celebrated).
